lazzzzer cutting

this is a colour representation of what my laser cut CAD project was supposed to look like (and will look like eventually, i'm determined to make it work). i used leather (shown by the burgundy) and because the design was so detailed, it shrivelled it up, so next time im going to use plexiglass which will be spray painted burgundy on the back so itll look like its sandblasted. the lighter, sandy colour is meant to represent woodgrain, and the darker brown represents the woodgrain that was engraved into.
ill post a before and after picture of the final product once i get a chance to get to the industrail design building and have it re-cut

four out of ten

here are four ties i made taken from a collection of ten called innards. they are white, silk habotai ties dyed with pro chemical dyes, some mixed with chemical water, others mixed with a more solid sodium alginate. the veiny effect was done using potato dextrin, the bones were made using white, opaque extender and the vein accents were done using black fabric surface paint.

reworked

im debating posting some of my written stuff on here or whether to keep it as just patterns? i dont know, i feel like i should make use of my creative writing minor. maybe short poems, eh ill cross that bridge when i get to it.

i reworked an old piece of a stuffed deer head and added more detail, a whole new background. i love it now. its the background on my laptop and im super happy about it.

weaving final!

Lurex.

so i just had my final critique for my weaving final. and its wierd to think i got my yarns in the mail a week and a day ago, and to think i cranked all these out in under a week blows my mind. i worked so hard for this class and im thrilled at the outcome! theyre all different sizes, smallest is 3x3 inches, the largest is 12x18 inches and the longest is 28x3 inches, just so you have an idea of the sizes. every single piece has metallics incorporated in them somehow, some are really shiny, and others are a simple touch, some i used as the pattern weft and other i used it as the plain weave (tabby) ground weft. theyre all really varied and im really happy about them!

these are all hand woven.

i just found this on my hard-drive.
it was for a self portrait project for my survey of computer arts and applications class i took about 2 or so years ago. its all done in vectors using adobe illustrator.
this is the kind of hair i would want if i had the balls to do it. but i dont. so ill just stick to the blonde.

one last piece of old work

this is a piece i made for my boyfriend kyle's birthday. its a drawing of this photo he loves of his dog back home and i enclosed her in an ogee filled with dog tags, treats, leashes, toys etc. just something i did for fun that i thought he would enjoy for his birthday.

more old work

for this project we were given random 'nostalgic' themes, such as toys, or tv shows from when we were kids, like legos, or the jetsons, and we had to create 2 patterns based off of that theme we were given. i got tamagotchis [awesome] and i focused on creating repeats using the pixelated creatures. theyre all hand-drawn so that it didnt look so computer genetrated, with perfect lines etc, i wanted them to look like a human made them. this first one was the one that i had, and it's the baby version of the chicken, and i remember i gave it to my mums boyfriend at the time to take care of while i was in school and he killed it, in its little chick prime. i saw this piece as a memorial.

work dump

so here is some work i did in my first cad class, its been sitting in my external hard drive and its about time i put it on here.
this project i had to combine 2 fashion styles; hip hop and country club. and i came up with these designs. i like them, but i wouldnt say that it's my finest work. i did them more as comical pieces.

this one went off on a bit of a tangent, i was thinking hip hop - graffiti - banksy, so i computerised spray paint splatters and paint rolls over a 'no diving' sign, that, i guess, would be in a country club pool. and banksy's most recurring motif is a rat, so that was my thought process with that. it's a 5-star pattern, and the rat and no diving sign is hand drawn.

this is a traditional stripe using the cream and beige from the 'country club' colour scheme and the purple, teal, orange and red from the 'hip hop' colour scheme. after this work was printed i went over the yellow in gold paint.

this one uses predominantly 'country club' motifs, and the background is a stylised pattern you would see on a cable knit sweater. the colours used are more on the 'hip hop' side and the horses were hand-drawn. same goes for the yellow, it was covered in gold paint after printing. this was a directional 5-star.

this was my take on an argyle, and the crossover yellow is meant to look like gold chains. everything is hand drawn and i wanted the lines to not look so perfect. the yellow was outlined in gold aswell after printing and it's a straight repeat.

phew

its been a while since ive updated. but i have new works to put up!

its been finals this week, and i just got out of my last class. i grabbed something to eat and came home and right now im putting off cleaning my apartment from tornado finals. what with projects and a new job, its been pretty hectic.

for this project, we had to research an artist on an era that we had studied in our history of fibers class and find how one influenced the other. i made the link that william morris had used old persian and turkish motifs and design aesthetics, so the project was to combine the two to create a different kind of artwork. as much as i hate william morris, this project wasnt that bad. the persians used animals encased in pearl roundels that faced away or towards each other, basically mirroring, so instead of half-dropping or having a 5-star pattern, morris had mirrored designs. he also used favoured ottoman flowers (carnations, tulips, hyacinths...) so i incorporated those. also the background is a satin/damask time with a traditional ottoman cintamani design, fashioned in the shape of a half-bricked ogee. i threw in a couple mythical senmurvs aswell, for good measure.

the quality of the photos isnt so great but i didnt want to upload fullsize tif files, because it would probably take like 5 years.

so here you go. im gonna attempt to clean my apartment. emphasis on attempt.

it's been a pretty crazy weekend. i got a new job at Alligator Soul which i started on saturday, worked last night and im already set to work thursday friday saturday and sunday this week. money would be great right about now.
also our friends from lithuania were in town from thursday until this morning and we always love it when they visit. its just a little taxing on our livers.

im attatching some images from my final project for my CAD class that i took winter quarter. theyre not very cohesive [at all] but my theme was replacing tradition stripe, damask, paisley and other motifs with different feathers from different breeds of birds, and map them onto electronics. it was a fun project but i used way to many colours, and a few too many straight repeats. but i learnt my lesson, and it will be interesting to see what i come up with in advanced CAD this coming fall.

the right halves of the images are cut off, and i dont know why. ill figure it out for the future.

this is the reason why im so lazy. maybe lazy isnt the right word; this is a great illustration of my priorities, which thankfully include schoolwork and designing. this is what my room in my old house used to look like. my new apartment looks pretty much the same. and my head isnt much better.

it's about time

cad design. photoshop. february 2009.

so im finally gonna get this freight train up and running. ill have to access my external hard drive when im not so lazy and upload some of my old work and photography. but as of right now ive been messing around with too many htmls for my liking.

right now im not in very creative classes; i have to catch up on some electives that ive been neglecting but over the summer i will be taking a weaving class [for the first time] which should be interesting. in the fall i will be taking advanced CAD design and advanced studio I, so i will have tons of stuff to upload [hopefully].

im also a creative writing minor so ill post some short stories or poems on here too. i wont bore you with my 15-page fiction stories but ill post some tidbits.

for now theres a little picture for you of a design that i created in photoshop, texture mapped onto my couch, with little jack.
